Slack is a time outside of the main rodeo performance when contestants compete. Each event has only 8-12 slots per performance, but with 80-90 contestants able to enter each rodeo event, not everyone makes it into the evening show.
Barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping all take place in slack, ensuring a full field of top rodeo action. For team roping, steer wrestling, and tie-down roping, the top 8 contestants from each morning slack will advance to that night’s performance.
The role of slack in the overall rodeo experience cannot be overlooked—it adds excitement, variety, and a chance to enjoy the rodeo without the hustle of a huge crowd. Whether you’re a contestant fighting for a spot in the performance or a spectator enjoying extra rodeo action, slack brings another level of competition, showcasing the depth of talent in each event.
Better yet, slack is free to watch! Bring the kids, grab a seat, and watch top contestants compete for a spot in the main performance.
